The Columbia County Rural Library District is dedicated to ensuring that all members of our community have equal access to services, no matter their origin, background, age, socio-economics, beliefs, or abilities. For more information on equitable access, please view the Library Bill of Rights, via the American Library Association.

The Library fully complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and provides accommodations by request for physical access, communications or other needs that ensure our services, activities and employment are available to people with disabilities.

While the Library is ADA compliant, we aim to do more.

Thanks to good financial planning and stewardship, we have several improvements planned for 2020 to increase accessibility, including:

  • Adding a vertical lift to allow full access to the youth library
  • Remodeling the upstairs to include better wheelchair access to the entire floor
  • Updating our restrooms for access and inclusion
  • Providing delivery services and outreach for home-bound patrons
  • Increasing website compatibility for screen-reading software
  • Providing upon request: sign language, oral, and cued speech interpreters for Library-sponsored classes, events, and programs
  • Providing upon request: assistive listening devices for hard of hearing
  • Adding an Accessibility Toolkit which contains a variety of assistive devices for blind and low vision patrons
