Privileges and Responsibilities of Having a Library Card
The privilege of having a library card is that it provides you access to books, audio books, research books, movies, music, and computers. With this privilege comes responsibility.
Only the owner of a library card may check out materials. No one is allowed to check out any library materials using another patron's account even if that person is related. We can however allow an authorized person to pick up materials already checked out to the primary card holder. In other words, any primary cardholder may designate an authorized user to pick up materials that have been checked out to that primary card holder. That authorized user can only pick up materials, they cannot check out materials for that primary card holder. And we will require a photo ID of the alternate user prior to them taking any materials from the library. If you would like to designate an alternate authorized user to pick up your already checked out items such as holds or Inter-Library Loans, please email us written permission or come into the library with written permission for that alternate user. Examples of alternate users would be parents, spouses, children, friends, etc.
How to Apply for a Card
Ask at the circulation desk for a library card application.
You will need picture identification and verification of your current address such as: current Washington State ID, current Washington state driver’s license or automobile registration, printed checks, or utility bill (dated within the past 30 days). The verification of address must include a street address (a post office box will not suffice).
If you already have a library card but it is not working please call circulation at 382-4131.
Columbia County Rural Library District will keep all records relating to your library registration confidential.
You may place a hold on most library items. You can do this on-line with your library card and password or you can call the circulation desk to place a hold. Please note that items are not available immediately when you place a hold on them, even if the item is not already checked out. You will be notified by phone, email or mail when your hold becomes available. It will be held for 5 days from the day that notification is sent out. If you need something immediately, call the library where the item is available and have them check the shelf and set it aside for you.
